Yahoo Inc. Reports Hackers Stole Data from 500 Million User Accounts
On Thursday, September 22, 20166, Yahoo Inc. announced it discovered a massive data breach affecting more than 500 million user accounts. The company stated that hackers may have accessed sensitive user information including names, email addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, encrypted and unencrypted security questions and answers, and hashed passwords. Users were told this information was accessed by cyber thieves as early as 2014. Yahoo stated that payment and bank account information was not stolen, however, it did state that the investigation into this cyber attack is on-going.
