Health insurer Anthem faces a class action lawsuit filed on behalf of 80 million current and former customers whose personal information was breached after computer hackers accessed sensitive information the company was supposed to safeguard.
This breach is considered to be the largest cyber-attack launched against a company. Anthem reported that hackers accessed customer information including names, birthdates, social security numbers, physical addresses, email addresses, employee information, and income information.
Anthem customers are at risk for identity theft
Experts say the personal information gathered by hackers could be sold on the black market and used to easily steal identities and open fraudulent accounts including the ability to submit fraudulent tax returns.
