On Thursday, December 10, 2015, the United States Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation transferred numerous lawsuits filed against Medical Informatics Engineering Inc., (MIE) to the Northern District of Indiana. Nearly 3.9 million people had their personal information exposed to thieves when MIE’s client database was accessed by unauthorized third parties in May 2015. MIE reported that sensitive information including patient names, addresses, social security numbers, dates of birth, and protected health information was all accessed placing millions of people at risk for identity theft and medical identity theft.
