Cohen & Malad, LLP Files Class Action Lawsuit on Behalf of Military Veterans for Theft of Personal and Medical Information
On December 1, Cohen & Malad, LLP filed a nationwide class action in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia against the Department of Defense, Tricare Management Activity, and Science Applications International Corporation, to recover damages for military veterans whose personal and medical information was stolen due to the failure to adequately safeguard that data. The stolen confidential information included millions of military clinic and hospital patients’ personally identifiable and protected health information as well as Social Security numbers, addresses, and phone numbers. The lawsuit, brought by a retired Commander Sergeant Major, seeks to recover substantial statutory damages under the Federal Privacy Act.
