Merck Saphris Drug Injury Lawyer
The FDA issued a warning on September 1, 2011 that Saphris, an antipsychotic manufactured by Merck, may cause an allergic reaction in some consumers who take it. Since 2009, approximately 52 cases of allergic reaction have been reported to the FDA. Most reactions occurred after the first dose but some occurred after reintroduction of the drug. About half of those reporting allergic reactions required medical treatment and approximately 36% required hospitalization or emergency care.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction, which have now been updated on the product’s label, include anaphylaxis (an immediate life-threatening, whole-body allergic reaction with symptoms including shortness of breath, wheezing, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, hives, nasal congestion, cough, and confusion and slurred speech), swelling, low blood pressure, swollen tongue, rapid heart rate, difficulty breathing, wheezing, and rash.
If you or a loved one is experiencing any side effects after using Saphris, please contact Cohen & Malad, LLP to speak with one of our experienced product liability/personal injury attorneys to discuss your legal options and help you seek the compensation you deserve.
