Viagra, the blockbuster erectile dysfunction drug, holds approximately a 45% share of the market in the nearly $4 billion global industry of erectile dysfunction drugs. More than 22 million men have been prescribed Viagra.
A study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association indicating men who are taking prescription Viagra had a higher incident rate for melanoma skin cancer. The study compiled data of 25,000 men over the course of several years and identified the incidence of skin cancers including melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and basal cell carcinoma through self-reported questionnaires. It found an 84% increased risk for melanoma in Viagra users.
