Respected Bankruptcy and Commercial Litigator, George W. Hopper, Retires

After a nearly 45 year career in law, attorney George W. Hopper has retired. George served as Of Counsel for our firm since 2014.

Widely regarded as one of Indiana’s preeminent bankruptcy and commercial litigation attorneys, he built and led the firm Hopper Blackwell, P.C. for 26 years prior to joining CohenMalad, LLP.

Throughout his career, George focused on complex commercial litigation, creditor’s rights, business bankruptcy, and financial restructuring matters, representing banks, businesses, and creditors in high-stakes disputes and insolvency issues. He regularly lectured on topics related to financial distress, business bankruptcy, and creditor rights, sharing his deep expertise with both peers and clients.

George’s professional excellence was recognized year after year by his peers. He was selected to Indiana Super Lawyers for multiple years from 2004 through 2026, and was honored among the Top 50 attorneys in Indiana. He also consistently earned Best Lawyers recognition in the field of Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law, including as recently as 2026.

As an attorney, George was distinguished not only by his legal acumen, but also by his leadership and service within professional organizations, including past roles with the Indianapolis Bar Association and national bankruptcy groups.
