Sexual Abuse Alleged in YMCA After School Program
A 26-year-old employee of the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis has been arrested by Greenfield police for allegedly inappropriately touching two children in an after-school program. Jericho Johnson was working at J.B. Stephens Elementary School, where he has been employed in the Y’s before/after school program since January 12. Reports of the incidents lead to Johnson’s immediate suspension and arrest by police. Parents whose children have attended the after-school program with Johnson, or have been in contact with him elsewhere, are asked to speak with their children to ensure they have not been abused. Concerns related to these allegations should be reported to the Hancock County 911 Center immediately; call 317-477-4400 to make a report with an officer.
The allegations in Hancock County highlight the broader issue of sexual abuse within the YMCA and organizations like it. In August 2023, New York YMCA camp director Josh Horner was accused of sexual abuse of someone under the age of 13 and arrested. Horner, 34, was put on immediate administrative leave and is facing charges of first-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. It has since been reported that in the years preceding, Horner worked at a total of five YMCA camp programs.
