Weinstein Attorneys Attempts To Overturn Rape Verdict
Almost four years after Harvey Weinstein’s conviction and imprisonment for rape, New York’s highest court was asked to hear arguments regarding his pursuit to overturn the verdict. Weinstein’s legal team has petitioned the state’s Court of Appeals in Albany to annul the 2020 conviction. They contend that the judge violated Weinstein’s entitlement to a fair trial because he was influenced by societal pressure related to the #MeToo movement and the influx of claims of sexual misconduct perpetrated by influential individuals.
Weinstein’s arguments on appeal included concerns about the fairness of the trial, and the admission of additional accusers as Molineux witnesses. His attorney argued against the necessity of such testimony.
The district attorney defended the use of such witnesses to establish intent.
