Class Action Partner Vess Miller is leading the charge for justice on behalf of financially vulnerable consumers
Attorney Vess Miller’s legal advocacy in recent years has helped safeguard the rights to a jury trial and class action lawsuit for hundreds of thousands of consumers.
Vess’s innovative dedication largely benefited working-class individuals who were victimized by their bank’s improper fee practices. The burden of punitive and abusive junk fees assessed by these banks often pushed financially vulnerable consumers into debilitating economic distress.
Thanks to a landmark win in Decker v. Star Financial Group, led by Vess, the Indiana Supreme Court ensured that banks cannot quietly rewrite account agreements to impose arbitration and eliminate class actions. His logical, contract-based argument succeeded, leading to a multi-million dollar settlement that returned bank fees to tens of thousands of affected individuals.
The momentum has continued, as Vess followed up with major victories in Land v. IU Credit Union, Teachers Credit Union v. Cripe, and critical cases in Wisconsin, Kansas, Ohio and beyond. His arguments are being cited by judges, and his influence on arbitration law is being acknowledged by state and federal appellate panels.
CohenMalad, LLP is immensely proud of the groundbreaking legal protections achieved. With Vess at the forefront, we’re excited to continuing this important work on behalf of consumers nationwide.
