Gerber Life Insurance Classes Certified
Cohen & Malad, LLP is delighted to announce that Judge Kenneth M. Karas of the Southern District of New York just certified classes of two million purchasers of Gerber Life insurance policies, misleadingly sold as savings plans instead of what they really were – juvenile life insurance. Individuals represented in this class action purchased nearly $700 million of these misleading policies.
Cohen & Malad’s legal team has worked tirelessly on this case for over five years, led by partners Lynn Toops and Natalie Lyons.
“Today is one of the best days of my career,” says Ms. Toops. “Gerber Life deliberately preyed upon new mothers and grandmothers, most of whom made at or under a living wage. They misled and tricked these women into purchasing worthless life insurance policies under the guise that they were a savings plan for their children, when they were not. I am delighted with the Court’s ruling, and am proud to have worked alongside Ms. Lyons, who has championed this case since the day she joined Cohen & Malad.”
Ms. Lyons commented, “This is a true win for the millions upon millions of consumers who were duped by Gerber Life into purchasing these products based on false, grossly deceptive messaging, and who otherwise might not have their day in court.”
