Indiana State Senators press for transparency as former Options’ patients continue to come forward
Guarded inspection and remediation reports, antiquated complaint processes, and a seemingly willful lack of transparency by those tasked with mental health facility oversight, accreditation: just a few of the gravely-concerning issues exposed by Kara Kenney‘s investigation into Options Behavioral Health patient complaints.
Options is owned by Acadia Healthcare, and is one of the behavioral health giant’s ten Indiana locations.
Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) took four months to provide WRTV with Options’ 2023-2024 inspection reports (revealing FSSA’s 2023 facility inspection was done “virtually”?). Indiana Senators and Behavioral Health Commission members Andrea Hunley and Cindy Ledbetter requested Options’ past five years complaint and inspection data in October; they’ve yet to receive anything.
When state leaders can’t access this info, how are Indiana residents facing mental health crisis supposed to?
“The only way to request records is through a cumbersome records request process,” said Senator Hunley. “At the end of the day, we have to have a system that is transparent and is being held accountable.”
