Indiana Chief of Cardiology Among Top 10 Worst In U.S. Healthcare
Witham Health Services (Lebanon, IN) Chief of Cardiology, Dr. Ed Harlamert, has been named among the top ten “worst” in U.S. healthcare. The Shkreli Awards, named for the infamous “pharma bro” Martin Shkreli, are awarded by the Lown Institute each year to perpetrators of the ten most egregious examples of profiteering and dysfunction in health care.
Harlamert is currently facing numerous malpractice lawsuits for unnecessary cardiac procedures, misdiagnosis and more. One patient under his care reported being subjected to 100 heart catheterizations, another received 40+ stents — including stents placed inside of stents — and in a video deposition, Harlamert does not deny placing as many as 80-90 stents in a single patient.
This award also comes on the heels of a study reporting 38% of cardiac stents placed in patients of Witham Health Services between 2019-2021 were unnecessary.* Dr. Harlamert was then, and is currently still, the Chief of Cardiology at Witham.
