Tort Claim Notices Filed in Alleged Sexual Misconduct Matter at North Madison Elementary

On behalf of our minor clients and their parents, CohenMalad, LLP has issued tort claim notices formally notifying North Madison Elementary School and Mooresville Consolidated School System of negligence claims. These notices concern alleged sexual misconduct by art teacher James Buchler.

CohenMalad, LLP began investigating these allegations several months ago after being contacted by parents of children attending North Madison Elementary School in Camby, Indiana.

Parents have reported that multiple children were subjected to inappropriate touching by Buchler, with numerous complaints made to school staff and leadership. Despite these students coming forward, the school administration allegedly failed to protect students from further harm and did not immediately notify law enforcement as required by law.

Our attorneys continue to review claims involving both Buchler and the school administration.

Buchler was licensed as an elementary/intermediate teacher in 2009. Before moving to North Madison for the start of the 2024–2025 school year, he had lived and taught in northeast Indiana since 2008.

Most recently he worked for the East Allen County School Corporation (2015–2024), teaching art at Heritage Elementary, Leo Elementary and Woodlan Elementary. Buchler also spent several years with the Fort Wayne Community School Corporation.
