Andrea Simmons (Andi) focuses her practice on serving victims of sexual abuse and medical malpractice. She has extensive experience in all stages of litigation involving personal injuries, as well as insurance policyholder disputes in numerous states. For more than 30 years, Andi has litigated a variety of cases in Indiana and federal courts, including:
- Drownings and near-drownings
- Golf cart accidents
- Paraplegia, quadriplegia, and hemi-paralysis
- Gas explosions
- Functional incapacity and cognitive impairment of long-term care policyholders
- Traumatic brain injury
- Auto, truck, and train accidents
- Premises liability
- Dog bite injuries and scarring
Andi is experienced working with children and teens who have sustained severe physical and emotional injuries, or who have witnessed catastrophic injuries to others. Her graduate degree in Human Biology provides her with an extensive knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
Prior to joining Cohen & Malad, LLP, Andi represented individuals, businesses, and insurance companies in cases involving personal injuries, wrongful death, and contract and insurance policy disputes. Her experience defending these cases provides a wealth of insight into defendants’ perspectives and strategies prior to and during litigation.
Andi is a veteran officer of the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corp, serving with the Third Armored Division in Germany. She prosecuted felony court-martial, then later defended soldiers facing court martial and non-judicial proceedings. Her jury trial experience in military courts included murders, rapes, child sexual abuse, battery, theft, desertion, and drug distribution. Andi also trained soldiers in military justice and the Geneva Conventions, and she provided counseling to American soldiers serving time in German prisons.
