Intel Faces Lawsuit Over Processor Defect
CohenMalad, LLP filed a class action lawsuit against Intel Corporation on behalf of all Indiana residents who purchased Intel processors which the company recently announced could allow hackers to steal sensitive data from devices using its hardware. The lawsuit alleges Intel’s x86-64x central processing unit (CPU) suffers from a security defect that could allow cyber thieves access to sensitive personal information that users store on devices such as laptop computers, desktop computers, cell phones, and servers. Media reports in late 2017 indicated a large number of Intel CPUs contained a design flaw that compromised the security of information stored on devices using this hardware. Software patches to address the defect can negatively impact device performance and slow processing speeds anywhere from 30-50% according to some industry estimates.
