Class Action Settlement Funds Provide Free Legal Services For People In Need
Nearly $20,000 in residual funds from a class action settlement negotiated by Cohen & Malad, LLP will go to local legal aid organizations under a recent court order. Cohen & Malad, LLP brought the lawsuit on behalf of more than 1,500 Indiana residents who alleged they were sold inappropriate estate planning documents prepared by non-lawyers.
After the case settled and settlement funds were mailed directly to victims, nearly $20,000 remained. Cohen & Malad, LLP attorneys recommended that these funds be awarded to the Indiana Bar Foundation and Indiana Legal Services to provide free legal advice and representation to people in need. “We’re extremely happy that funds from this settlement will be used to support the good legal work these organizations do for low-income Hoosiers who need legal help but can’t afford it,” said Cohen & Malad, LLP partner Vess Miller. The awards are the latest in a series of awards to charities that have come from class action cases the firm has settled.
